Introduction by Tom Trapp
Don wrote this book as advice to pass along to others he cares about.   I have always admired Don’s quest for knowledge, his intellect, his practical approach to issues, and his openness to share information and his opinion with others.

This book, unlike most you will read, is one that is full of lessons for life and of substantiated opinions for some of life’s most important decisions.  I know of no other book that offers so much value in so few pages on such diverse topics.  A million dollars of practical advice, by my estimates, is conservative.  One may argue the lessons in this one book would rival the lifetime value obtained from a four-year college education.   This is a guidebook designed to build knowledge on topics before the information is needed.  Therefore, it is important to read this book and review its content periodically.  Reading about a topic or how you should have made a decision - after the fact - is of little or no value.

Our “relative perspective” allows us to “see and hear things based on where you sit” on a given topic and affects our opinions and actions.  Personal upbringing, environmental experiences, cultural differences all influence our opinions.  These perspectives may cause emotional reactions to several of Don’s intended lessons.  Keep an open mind.  The writings are intended for your (our) best interest.

I have often said there are but a few key decisions that you will need to make and strive to “get right” in life that will have dramatic effects on your life’s outcome (spouse, career, family, friends, service, God).   Making the right decisions doesn’t ensure that life will be uneventful, but it stacks the good things over the bad things, in your favor.  I would encourage you to read this book and add to it those lessons you find meaningful that you might want to share with others.

Enjoy!
